Lewis Barfoot is an Irish/English singer-songwriter based in County Cork, who blends evocative vocals with original compositions and reinventions of traditional songs from across Ireland and the UK. During her Winter residency at SIRIUS, she is researching and producing a new piece, Mother Ireland. This work gives voice to the untold stories and silencing of women in Ireland, departing from the plight of her mother and aunts in the Sisters of Mercy orphanage in Cobh, County Cork, and her grandmother’s incarceration at Our Lady’s Asylum in Cork. It consists of a combination of songs, under-scored spoken word, video recordings and performance.
