Cork Harbour has had a long connection with the United States, stretching back to its time as a British Colony. These interactions have been dominated by military activity, and have had a major social impact on the Harbour area. This talk will explore some of these connections, concentrating on the presence of thousands of US sailors in the harbour between 1917 and 1919, and examining what survives relating to their time here and the social impact their presence had.
