Artist in residence Matthew Noone is a composer-performer whose primary instrument is the 25 stringed North Indian lute called the sarode.

This talk/ demonstration will explore musician Matthew Noone’s emergent creative process of creating original work for the North Indian lute called sarode.  Combining informal discussion along with musical examples, Matthew will share how he attempts to embrace the diversity of his musical pedigree (post-rock/ minimalism/ electronica/ free jazz/ Indian classical/ Irish traditional) by composing new work.

He will outline how these influences are absorbed into his compositional process and would like to open up to discussion the concept of 'mongrelity' as a creative way of being-in-the-world.
