This Must Be The Place | The Great Island

Carol Anne Connolly is a visual artist living and working in Co. Cork. Her work reimagines or represents ideas pertaining to contemporary landscapes and environments. Connolly's residency will explore the cultural history, function and relevance of cultivated and wild landscapes on the Great Island. Her research involves working with members of the community and will culminate in an event held at Sirius Art Centre.

Biography

Recent projects and shows include The Water Glossary, as part of TULCA 2015, The More Closely You Look at the World, the More Distant it Becomes, solo show at The Black Mariah Gallery, Triskel Arts Centre Cork (2014), For I Is Someone Else, solo project at Pallas Projects, Dublin (2013) and WerkStadt Kulturverein e.V, Berlin (2012). In collaboration with artist Augustine O'Donoghue, Connolly produces artist led projects that include Planting a Seed, a public art commission at Colaiste Ide agus Iosef, Abbeyfeale (2015) and a political artists and film makers screening entitled Is Féidir Domhain Eile A Chruthú (Another World Is Possible) at the World Social Forum, Belem, Brazil (2009). Past public art projects include AFTER (2008), a public art intervention facilitated by renowned international artist Alfredo Jaar and funded by The Arts Council of Ireland.

Connolly graduated from the National College of Art and Design with an Honours Degree in Fine Art Sculpture (2006) and completed an MA in Arts Policy and Practice through the Huston School of Film and Digital Media at the National University of Ireland, Galway (2011). She was a member of the Board of Directors at 126 Artist-led Gallery in Galway City (2013-14) and was Visual Art Director of Mantua Arts Project, a rural-based, artist-led gallery and residential studio space in Co. Roscommon, Ireland (2006-08). She is co-founder of artist led groups Alter/native and the Home University of Roscommon & Leitrim (H.U.R.L).
