Sirius Arts Centre has been developing its Artist in Residence programme for over a decade. The programme receives funding from the Arts Council and Cork County Council and is recognised internationally. Residents live in a basement apartment in the Sirius Arts Centre’s building, located in the centre of Cobh, 20 minutes by train from Cork City. The flat, a four bedroom two bathroom apartment has its own kitchen and work area, within walking distance of transportation and Cobh town centre. The Artist in Residency programme at Sirius provides residential and some work space to visual artists, either individuals or groups.

Due to funding requirements, Sirius’ curatorial panel meets once a year to book residencies and exhibitions for the following year. All applications for residencies and exhibitions have been selected for 2010. But if you’d like to apply for next year please read the application procedures here.

How to apply

Artists are chosen for residencies in one of two ways:

1] Invitation by curatorial panel

Artists from Ireland and abroad are invited by the curatorial panel for residencies, with a view to developing exhibitions, projects or publications in Cobh and Cork County.

2] Artists may submit an application independently

to be considered for a residency or an exhibition at Sirius.

Please Note: Applications for residencies and exhibitions have now been accepted and approved for 2011! The deadline for 2012 residencies and exhibitions is MONDAY 16 MAY 2011

Applications are considered for both single artists or groups of artists who wish to share the residency.
The term of residence at Sirius ranges from 4 - 6 weeks longer residencies can be considered in specific circumstances.
Sirius Arts Centre often links with other arts organisations in Ireland and abroad in conjunction with the residency programme. Past partners have included: the Douglas Hyde Gallery Dublin,Crawford Municipal Gallery Cork, National Sculpture Factory Cork, Triskel Arts Centre Cork, Pepinieres Europeennes pour Jeunes Artistes France and the Gallery of Photography Dublin the Krakow Month of Photography, Poland.
If awarded a residency placement, Sirius will provide accommodation in the artist's flat for a time agreed on by the artist and the organization. Depending on our annual funding, we try to assist artists with round trip travel to Ireland and a small stipend for living when possible. Given the changes in funding streams for the arts in Ireland, we recommend that - if accepted into the programme - artists apply to their own Arts Councils and Local Authorities to source funding for travel and expenses. There is no cost to apply to the residency programme at this time.
